About Portable Appliance Testing

I do this to safeguard not only myself but you also - You'd be amazed what I see sometimes in the wiring; crossed wires in the plug, wires not secured into the connector block & where arcing of electricity has created so much heat that the plug had melted.

So a PAT test my end checks for crossed wires or even arcing of electricity where sometimes enamal on wires can get crushed or cracked by the glues used to hold them in place particulalry if someone trys to squeeze the wiring into shape or to a particular dimension/size of which it need not have been.

I sometimes find in old machines that the insulation around wires has degraded - sometimes the insulation was poorly manufactured (cheap labour markets = sometimes poor quality materials) BUT NOTE: Not all the time as there are cheap labour markets that want to produce really great quality products & to also build a great customer service portfolio to help expand their business even if their branded product is unheard of against more expensive named brands but of equal IF not better quality.

The really old machines with electricity I deffinately PAT test & a complete visual before & after along the wiring.

The newer machines with circuit boards I try not to PAT test as circuit boards are a liability these days & almost feel like they are programmed to self-distruct after the guarantee has run out... SO a visual it is on those particularly IF I see damage to cable leading from mains socket to machine.
